Boulder River by Glenda Carol

Standing in the rain, under the eve of a cabin in Big timer, Montana,   painting a scene up river was a new experience for me.  I love plein aire painting,  but in the rain was a riot.   My mother was sitting in a nice motor home while a friend and I were out in the rain.     This is a 9 x 12 oil on canvas board framed beautifully in gold for only 175.00 including free shipping.

CONTEMPORARY CHAIR PORTRAIT BY DIANE BARBEE

HEAD IN THE CLOUDS
This little painting is done on a 6x4 canvas panel.  It is part of my "My World" series.  I am starting these paintings at $35.  It is a great price.  I sell my original painted cards for $25.  I am really enjoying these whimsical little paintings and I hope you will too.

plein air rural scene by BECKY JOY

HAYFIELD 6x6 oil plein air on canvas panel.

This is from last week's plein air paintings on my Oregon trip. I went out every morning to paint.

Sat, Sun and Mon I taught a workshop in Portland. It really went well. I haven't got the photos ready, so I'll have to post them later. I also was taking a video of one of the demo pieces, but forgot to set the camcorder in movie mode. I found that out after I finished painting. Anyway trust me, it went well. I sold the demo, a moonlight painting, to one of the students. They asked me to return for next year, so all in all, it was a success.

I have a couple of workshops I need to see if we can sew them up when I get home.

I'm hoping it isn't raining in the morning, so I can get out one last time. Time to pack up the paints soon and send them home.

Talk to you all later.

Splat! by Jake Beckman

Splat!
Splat! is a whimsical acrylic painting in the Binary Birds series by Jake Beckman. It is 6 x 8 inches on archival canvas board. Splat! is a separable piece of a large whole representative of a cell phone key pad. The asterisk symbol is painted in interference violet paint giving it a little bling, and a single canary gazes upon it. The background is feathery spiral in shades of purple and lavender with touches of dark blue and maroon. The predominant colors are shades purple and yellow. In keeping with the Binary Birds social media theme the painting features ASCII Binary which represents "Splat!" and "*".

Travel Journal Painting "St Fabiola" by Barbara Rudolph

"Travel Journal - St. Fabiola"

This is from my "Travel Journal" series of paintings.  It is a mixed media collage that is painted on gallery wrapped canvas.  It has pieces of old maps, script, gold leaf, little treasures from different parts of the world.  Each one always includes a beautiful old "postage stamp".  Many of the stamps I often use come from an old collection that was my grandfather's.  Clients often mail me beautiful old stamps to use in my paintings and I enjoy creating memories that will last forever with them.  You can see more like this on my website, or email me for more information.

Hash, by Jake Beckman

Hash
Hash is a whimsical acrylic painting in the Binary Birds series by Jake Beckman. It is 6 x 8 inches on archival canvas board. Hash is a separable piece of a large whole representative of a cell phone key pad. The number symbol is painted in interference blue paint giving it a little bling, and 2 canaries sit atop the vertical ends of the pound sign. The background is abstract airy abstract reminiscent of puffy clouds in shades of blue and white with just a touch of violet. The predominant colors are shades blue, white and yellow. In keeping with the Binary Birds social media theme the painting features ASCII Binary which represents, Hash, and #.

Three hashes signify the end of a press release. In Twitter, the hash tag allows you to categorize your tweet, as in #art, to make it easier for others to find you. CONTEMPORARY HORSE PAINTING WITH CHECKERBOARDS, "CABALLO #1"

CABALLO #1
This is a rich, textured, abstracted form of the horse with all of its grace and power.  I have been an admirer of the horse for as long as I can remember.  I have a Tennesse Walker that is amazing.  I just adore him.  The horse is so amazing because of their grace and beauty and their amazing strength and speed.  I think that is why they are such an incredible draw to artists.  I have been drawing and painting the horse since I was a little girl.  This painting "Caballo" is showing the power and beauty of the horse.  All of the texture and patterns add sophistication to this painting.

"Alone in Winter" By Li Mahalik

Oil on Gessoed Masonite, 6"x6"

This painting was  based on a picture I took during a plein air paint-out at the Pebble Beach by the Bush highway. The green tree stood out amongst the grey leafless trees along the creek. I added some horizontal elements to break up the many vertical lines.

Oregon plein air painting by BECKY JOY

FALL CROP 5x7 oil plein air.

This was the second painting that I painted yesterday morning. Another nice day and good day of painting. There is so much scenery to paint, but the trick is to find a place to park on a narrow country road. I found a good spot to park. So, I painted two paintings from the same parking spot. Actually, there were more scenes that I could have painted today, but I needed to get back to take my mom on an errand.

I noticed that a lot of the fields have been cut. It's supposed to rain this weekend, so they had better get it all baled and picked up soon.

Following are some photos that I took during the painting of yesterday's plein air.

Today I painted two more this morning and from the same parking spot. I'll post them later.

Glenda Carol Carnival Horse was a crazy wild idea.  It happened the afternoon before our local Rodeo started here in Payson, Az.  last week-end.  WE had to work at the gallery and I thought if I could do something wild and put it out in front of the gallery while the parade was going on,  it might draw some attention.  This is an 18 x 24 gallery wrap cnavas,  and is $200.00   including shipping in the contenintal US

OR plein air paintings by BECKY JOY

MORNING 5x7 oil/canvas panel
With the purchase of this painting, you will receive free a small black wrought iron display easel. So framing is optional.

Today was a great morning out painting, my third day painting in Yamhill County, OR. I feel like I was getting in the groove. I haven't done any plein air painting for a while since I live in Arizona (it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hot for that). The weather has been great, except that the Oregonians have been complaining that it is too hot. They don't know what hot is. I think it is wonderful.

I drove down the road from my parents about 5 to 7 miles and I was out in the country with little farms dotting the landscape. The light in this scene was just starting to come over the trees hitting a little of the shed and the field in front of it. Great atmosphere to paint here.

I'll be out there again tomorrow morning, then probably off to Portland to visit friends.

Talk to yo all later.

BECKY JOY plein air painting in Oregon

Morning at the Crossroads 6x6 oil available on my websiteThis is the plein air painting from yesterday morning. The light was shining through onto the road with the mailboxes against the light road. Today I painted a couple of them, but I didn't feel that they were anything special. I'll have to get them out of the box and look again. Sometimes looking at them later I can readily see what they need. Tomorrow is another day. I'll be out there again in the morning.

"from My Heart" By Li Mahalik

Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas, 20"x16"

I painted this a week ago and let it sit in my studio while pondering about it. It had a lot more red then and had no dark value, and it seemed too sweet. So, I revised it a bit today. Even though it's an abstract, a focal point or area still helps tying everything up. I would have loved all my abstracts to look good no matter how you place it. Not this one, though. It wants to look like a bunch of flowers, from my heart.

An update of my 4'x4' commissioned abstract painting: I'm still painting it in my mind, no kidding!

Please contact me if you have any comments, questions or have something in mind (yes, yours :) for a painting. Or visit my website, and my blog.

Workshop teaching in Oregon by BECKY JOY

This 11x14 oil is a rework of a plein air painting that I wasn't totally happy with. I changed the design a little adding more layers of trees for depth and atmosphere and worked on the color. I love the colors in this piece.
I have posted this painting on my website, www.beckyjoy.com

I'm in OR in the Yamhill County right now visiting family and plein air painting. I'll be posting some of those that I've done. I'm also getting ready to teach a three day workshop this weekend in the Portland area.

I just had someone contact me about teaching a workshop in the Fort Worth area. I thought I would post that on my blog with the hopes that there might be more interest in getting a workshop together. Just a thought to think about. If you are interested or know others in that area that might be, email me and let me know.

I won't be able to have the ustream broadcast this week since I'm not in my studio. I should be back on the air in two weeks. I'll let you know.

Marsh wetlands oil painting by BECKY JOY

This 8x10 painting is on my website

Yesterday I reworked one of my plein air pieces. I decided to punch it up a bit and add more colors. I liked all the colors in the algae and pond scum. There was kind of a violet red to part of it. It was a fun piece to paint. You can see where I used the palette knife on the thicker paint. It really added a lot of texture and the contrast with the still water really makes that look smooth.

I have a workshop I will be teaching in about a week in Oregon. I'll post some picks from the class. I have been spending some time preparing for the workshop lately.

Everyone have a great weekend. Talk to you later.

Oil painting field and trees by BECKY JOY

This is the finished 24x30 that I started during my Ustream broadcast. It is titled "Summer Road"
To view this painting and others go to my website, www.beckyjoy.com.

I used one of my daily paintings as a reference and a photo when I did the little one. The format is a little narrower than the 5x7. I also painted some buildings in the background, sky holes in the trees, branches and light on the mountains. Oh, and I pumped up the red in the bushes at the base of the tree.

I had a lot of fun painting this one today. I really loaded the paint on in the foreground. I'm working on getting some larger work done. I don't have a lot on hand right now. I had about an hour to go painting today and the power went out. So, we went bowling. It was a good day bowling also. Came home and the power was back on, so I finished it today. YAY! I'm happy with this one.

Talk to you all tomorrow.

zero, by Jake Beckman

zero
zero is a whimsical acrylic painting in the Binary Birds series by Jake Beckman. It is 6 x 8 inches on archival canvas board. zero is a separable piece of a large whole representative of a cell phone key pad. An outline of a canary, representing the null-set flies wings outspread before the number zero. The zero is worked over with gold interference paint giving it a little bling. The predominant colors are shades of bright yellow, orange, gold and black. In keeping with the Binary Birds social media theme the painting features ASCII Binary which represents "zero" and "0".

Binary Birds
, by Jake Beckman - art that proudly projects you are member of the Social Media Tribe. Why would you buy zero? Zero is an interesting number-it represents nothing; it divides positive and negative numbers. As for its use on the phone, in many instances its the number that takes you to the real live human being in a surfer menu. In your life, who is the go to guy or gal in the surfer menu of life? Who is your zero key?
