Arizona sunset oil painting by BECKY JOY

This 6x6 is for sale

I worked in my new studio today. Everyday it is even better. Mike builds me little things in the studio. I posted a photo of the drying shelves that he put up for me. The gold ones are an old metal watercolor frame that he took apart and mounted the pieces on the wall. What a great idea. They are sturdy and neat looking.

If you have the opportunity to see the 6" squared show at the Randy Higbee gallery in Costa Mesa, CA, you should go. It looks like an absolutely fabulous show of 300 6x6" paintings. I have 3 in the show. I wish I was there.
The opening is Sat Dec 4 to 8 pm
and Sun Dec 5 12 to 5 pm
Show and Sale
This is my drying rack for the small paintings, my wrapping and framing station with the wire in the holder that Mike also made for me. The rack is really great. I can see the paintings that I've recently worked on (and tweak them if I need to) instead of placing them in the CD rack that puts them out of view.

Daily sunset oil painting by BECKY JOY

This 6x6 oil on canvas

My new website is up and running, but limited. I have not put everything on it that I intend to. I'm working on it a little every night. This painting is posted on it. So you can see the website, but remember that not all the links are workable. You will be able to see by all the tabs what will be on it. I'm excited by the possibilities that I will have with it.

I just finished my commissioned work and now I will be working on a project that I started several months ago and need to get more done on it.

I'll talk to you all later.

Autumn Valley Sunrise

"Autumn Valley Sunrise"

Oil on Canvas
12" X 16"
$650*

Facing East to the sunrise. I rose early one morning to paint at dawn and to create art of a sunrise morning in the southwest. The far hills are Bryce Canyon. The valley is "Long Valley' and the Sevier river flows through it. The rich Fall colors mixed with the morning warmth of the sun.

This painting has an amazing quality to it. As the daylight increases in the room where it is hung, the light gains strength just as a sunrise would.

Sunset daily oil impressionist painting by BECKY JOY

This 6x6 oil sunset is #27
I've been working all day on commissioned pieces that have stacked up, a good thing. Sunsets are the themes of the bigger paintings with two to go. I've also been working at nights on the new website. Understanding some of the computer language is challenging for me, but I know I can do it. Years ago I did build my own website using frontpage, so I know I can do it again using wordpress. Ya just gotta read the directions. I'm more of a "hands-on"person . I have to force myself to take it slow and read all the directions in order. UHG!

Talk to you all tomorrow.

Antique truck plein air painting by BECKY JOY

This 6x6 oil on canvas board

Today we needed to get away from the house with all the construction and working so hard lately. So we went out to my friends Kit and Aryana so that I could paint their GM truck by the name of Giovanni.
I've painted this truck before and just love the patina and color variations in it. The reds and violets contrasting with the greens make a great combination. I had a lot of fun today. I need to get out there more often.

I've been working on my website now. I have a new host and will putting together a new site. I wasn't able to do some of the things that I wanted with the previous site, so here goes. I worked on it last night, now again tonight. Hopefully, it doesn't take too long. Probably not the best time of year to do this, but it needed to be done.

I'll try to get something else done tomorrow and get back in the swing of things.

Talk to you all later,

Martinez in The Fall By Logan Bauer

It was a cool day in Martinez just Northeast of San Francisco. I was standing on the platform at the local railroad station. As I turned around to look back at the edge of the city/town I saw this wild combination of colors.
I had to paint it and as a result it turned out to be a somewhat colorful depiction of "Fall In Martinez" according to Logan Bauer

Sky #26 oil painting by BECKY JOY

This 6x6 oil is for sale
I'm finally up and running. My studio is just about done just a few finishing touches, some moulding, shelving in the storage room, my dry eraser board and lights. Daylight painting is OK right now. Its fabulous being in this new space. I've been getting it organized the last two days, then today I took the day off from working on it. I have some commissions I needed to get busy on, so that was the job today. I also painted this small little oil and hopefully, I'm back on track with the small paintings.

I've started to revamp my website, so it is down right now. I wanted to make some major changes to it. I will be having some video on it of demos and my new studio. So I'll let ya' know when its done and I'll post the studio picks and video.

Its been a lot of work the last 5 weeks. We did all the work ourselves. The last two weeks was more work for me so the painting took a back seat, but I just know I'll be putting out better paintings with this studio. At least it will help me be more organized. There is a place for everything now.

Talk to you all hopefully tomorrow.

FANTASY IN THE RED ROCKS

FANTASY IN THE RED ROCKS
By Scottdale Artist
PAT STACY
FANTASY IN THE RED ROCKS
40" x 30" x 1.5" Acrylic on Canvas
$1200.00
This painting was driven by my fantasy and fun.
It started with a heavily textured canvas and the urge
to paint something bright blue. After I had a bright
blue canvas, I got the notion that I wanted to
paint Sedona colors, but with my fantasy, not
reality. The night scene has much energy in the sky
2 shades of copper and whispers of white and interference
circles. The ground under the trees has stamping for
additional texture, with copper swirls. The entity
observes the energies in the heavens and on the earth.

Pat Stacy, 602-290-3009 or pastacy@cox.net. Also

Oak Creek, Sedona - by Li Mahalik

Oil on Canvas, 14x11
***

I painted this today from a picture I took at the Red Rock Crossing during a plein air workshop a couple years ago. I've liked this picture but dreaded to paint it because it looked so complicated. Then, I summed up my courage.

Besides using a palette knife, I squinted my eyes a lot to simplify details. I also used a brush to paint where a knife would have messed it up. Since I don't have a lot of patience and a steady hand, the knife was handy for trees and twigs. The problem was that they tend to look too straight and mechanical. Perhaps I should use the brush for trees but only after the under paint dries a bit next time.

"In Gloria's Garden" by Li Mahalik

Oil on Gessoed Masonite, 6"x6"

In Gloria's Garden

I'm a chair

In my proper place
Birds and bees and flowers
Greet me

Everyday

I've been sat on, rained on
And stepped on

I'm properly called an antique

Don't worry and no offense
Call me anything
I'm easy

©Li Mahalik

My friend Sven and I went to Gloria's house to paint last Thursday. In her courtyard,I painted the chair and the flower pots and Gloria painted a daisy and a pot, but Sven ended up painted me while I was painting. Although the setting was very pretty, I had to simplify the background to not fight with the chair. I like the structure of this painting and it had been a good experience.

daily plein air painting by BECKY JOY

Going through paintings while cleaning up today I ran across this one. I forgot about this 9x12 that I painted during the San Luis Obispo Plein Air Festival. I loved the color of this house and the variations in the shadow colors. The mailboxes and the fence in violet I thought added a nice touch to the scene.

This morning I went out and bought a new printer. I got an Epson which I used to have and was always pleased with the color. My color photos that I printed out sure turned out nice. It was a good choice. Now I'm taking a break from helping to install the insulation in the ceiling of the studio. I've taken some photos, but there really isn't much to show you yet.

Painterly Art-Sunflowers-by Li Mahalik

Oil on gessoed masonite, 6"x6"

Sunflowers

Today is one
Of those days, again
When no one is

Around him
To show him what love is

He looks up
With sun-filled eyes

His hearts turns
Into sunflowers

Even if he no longer can see
He knows where

The sun is
His flowers will let him know

©Li Mahalik

When my friends and I were busying painting a water jug still life, husband Mark came in with a bunch of sunflowers. I dropped everything and quickly painted them. I was in awe of the beauty. But I didn't quite capture the leaves. A few days later, I had to invent the leaves. They are fuzzy now as if in dreams.
