This is one of the pages in the October issue of "American Art Collector"magazine that will be out soon.

The "Sage Creek Gallery" in Santa Fe is hosting the 6th Annual "IGOR" show on September 30th.   I am so pleased to be a part of this wonderful event.   My "All That Jazz" oil painting was the piece that was selected by the jury.   The "International Guild of Realism" currently represents around 260 artists hailing from 33 countries around the world.   The Guild seeks high quality artwork, ranging from the ultra-contemporary to timeless traditional realism.   There will be 70 artists works on display for this wonderful show.   John O'Hern, retired curator of the Elmira Museum of Art in Elmira, NY will be an honored guest judge.   He was the curator for one of the best realism museum exhibitions during the years called "Realism Today," with several of the most famous living realists of the world exhibiting in it year after year.

This painting was such fun!! I picked
this wild color scheme to put over the
highly textured background--and did almost
everything to it. I rolled, stamped, stenciled,
brushed, and downright played. The Entity has
several colors that glisten in the right light.
I love it on the wall. For more information,

BY SCOTTSDALE ARTIST
PAT STACY

THE GREATEST OF THESE
12" X 12" X 2.5"
acrylic on canvas

This is a wedding painting for Gavin and Jennifer Wiggins. It has the
wedding couple standing together. Hardly seen above them is a
heart signed with a cross, done in interference paint. other
hearts predominate with the spirals and stamping I often use.
The Entity is there, bringing the light of the Creator into the
painting. I would like to think it also brings blessings to the
happy couple. The wedding was beautiful--they were so happy!

Antique jeep in the field oil painting by Becky Joy

Jeepers 6x6 oil on canvas panel
I saw this old jeep around Taos (a great place for old vehicles). It was on someone's property and not a very good view from the road. No one was home, so I did a little trespassing to get a photo of it. I'm not sure what the original color was, because it seemed like it was multicolored with just that little bit of red on the fender. I love painting the old patinas on the vehicles that have weathered. Fun stuff to paint. No shiny cars for me.
Getting ready for my trip to Oregon and plein air painting on the gorge. Really a great place, can't wait. Time to start setting things aside for my trip now. Talk to you all later.

sunset clouds oil painting demo by Becky Joy

Late Day Sun 6x6.
Hi all,
It's been a full day for me. I started my day with working at the repo house that we have. Last week we (or Mike) tore off three room that had been added onto the house. We are trying to get it back to the original block house. So, this morning Iwas the picker-upper. We have lots of bulk trash. In Phoenix the city picks up the bulk trash every three months. It's time in the neighborhood. So, I've been picking up and piling garbage. I figure its something constructive and better exercise than the treadmill. It certainly feels like it.
I came home at about 10 am and started my office work day. I had plenty of emails, computer and phone calls to make. After lunch I was finally ready to paint. I painted this little 6x6 sunset. My inspiration for the painting was a sunset that we had about two nights ago with that beautiful orange color in the sky with the variety of violets. I used a photo of a road that I had for the composition of the painting combining with the colors of the sunset.
I will be having some guest posts from other artists and tutorials with eventually workshops. For this painting, I have posted step by step photos with explanation. Check it out, but remember, the website will have a new, professional look in a couple of weeks. Click here to see the painting progression.
Oh, and then this afternoon I went over to the house to work a couple of more hours into the evening. This time of year we work mostly in the morning and then evening avoiding the midday sun.
Talk to you all later.

Icon of the West, old truck in field Plein Air

old Truck, The End? 6x8 oil plein air

Hi everyone, Good to be feeling good! Last weekend I started my drive up to Cheyenne to participate in the plein air event, Peaks to Prairies. I was looking forward to some cooler weather and painting in the area. On my way up there, I stopped along a road near Taos to paint this little painting.
All was going well on the trip, then in Colorado Springs I got off the freeway for gas and had an accident. My car was totaled, I was dazed and fortunate. I walked out with a scratch on my knuckle and just plain ol' sore. I had to get a ride to the rental cars, transfer all my stuff as I had the last glimpse of my car.
I called off the plein air event. I felt that I would be too sore to be of much good for a few days. I find that when I paint a lot at an event my neck and shoulder muscles get really sore and I knew that I would have more soreness and stiffness in the following few days and it was a long drive home to Phoenix. I turned around and started back taking it slower and planning more days to get home.
The next day between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, my rental  car broked down on the freeway at rush hour. So, it was call the rental company again, get a tow truck, new car and transfer my stuff all over again. I finally got to Albuquerque for the night, went to a nice dinner, had a drink and got to bed (but didn't sleep well).
I then continued my trip home in the third car and finally made it home late at night. Yesterday, I slept a lot and feel really good today.
So, I was wondering, is the plein air of the old truck just appropriate or an omen?
Talk to you later. Back to business and painting now and looking for a new car.

BECKY JOY Alabama plein air farm painting

Time 11x14 oil on canvas panel.
Hi everyone,
I'm not getting a lot of painting done this week. I have two plein air events and a workshop to prepare for. So, for now I am posting the paintings from the plein air in Gadsden that I participated in earlier this summer (during the tornado, but that is another story). I just received the paintings in the mail so I had the chance to look at them again and a couple of them make adjustments. I also pitched two of them. They didn't look so good at second glance.
The day I painted this one, I was painting at a farm in Gadsden, Alabama. After finishing one painting, I went down the road and saw this old abandoned farm. I love the old buildings with a history and story. I’m not sure what the last use was. The top looked like a house, the bottom like a lean-to barn. Anyway, the blue/violets of the structure contrasted with the wild yellow flowers in the field. The vine was growing up the chimney and the fence posts were falling down. All things that I love to paint, that wild, unkept look.

When I got this one home, I deepened the value on the building and grayed the background trees a little more. I also added a little more variety in the grasses in the foreground.

Talk to you all later.

BECKY JOY plein air oil landscape fern garden rock wall

The Secret Garden 8x10 oil © Becky Joy $400.
I just got back my paintings from Gadsden, Alabama when I did a plein air festival down there. I was able to take some good photos of the work and tweak a couple of the paintings. Sometimes you don't see a problem with the painting at the beginning. It takes a little time and distance (and in this case, the distance was literal) to see things you would change the second time around.

I needed to shorten the base of the pot on the right side in this painting and also darkened the value a little behind the fern fronds on the right side, which helped to make the light stand out a little more.  I didn't want to get into this one too much because I really liked the freshness of the brushstrokes and the variety in the greens.
I'll get some more of these paintings from this trip posted this week. I'm getting ready to take off for painting in Cheyenne, WY this next week at the Prairies to Peaks Plein Air at Deselms Gallery.
I have also been working on putting together some online workshops. I should have everything ready to go for September. I'll let you know what is going on in a few days.
