"Brittlebush Study", 4x6 watercolor on plain paper by Stevie Denny

Tonight I did some practice painting in my journal. I've had a bad cold and didn't feel much like painting, but I pushed myself to do something. I painted this from a photo I had taken in Spring 2010 when I went to Bartlett Lake to see the wildflowers.  When they're not in bloom they look like weeds, but starting in February the Brittlebush bloom like crazy. If you stand on a hillside, they look like a carpet of yellow across the desert.
