I continue to push myself to create depth on a flat surface. The background is actually Telegraph Pass on South Mountain near my home. Here I am working on creating depth using the far hillside, then a middle ground where you see the small saguaros and then the foreground with the desert plants. All dominated by this large and ancient saguaro. To further create this illusion I studied this saguaro carefully looking at the colors, particularly the main trunk which has turned light brown with age and how the early morning light falls across the cactus.
