I'm new to this blog, but not blogging. To see more visit my blog,
I painted this one from a photo that I took on a trip to Charleston about 3 years ago. I created depth and the illusion of the pillar and flowers popping forward by using soft edges with the brush in the background and hard edges and the palette knife in the objects moving forward into space. I started with dioxazene purple in my shadows and adjust the colors and values of each object. the pillar has yellow ochre mixed with the purple and some of the green from the plants. I painted an underpainting of orange in the grass. Some of the grass, branches and mortar lines I used a rubber sculpting tool to scribe those areas, much easier than painting lines.
Well, I have completely moved, not completely done with the house or putting things away. But, I can now relax a little and get back to business. I didn't have time to think about painting withdrawals or have the energy. Moving in 100+ degrees certainly takes a lot out of you.
I did manage to have my drawing for the free painting for signing up for my newsletter. And......the winner is Dorothy Kerr from Oregon. I will have a drawing for July also, so you still have a chance to win a painting by signing up for the newsletter. If you have already signed up, have a friend sign up. You will both be in the drawing the, just email me to let me know who you are.
I haven't gotten around to my monthly newsletter yet. Obviously, it will be late coming out. Well, back to painting and the computer. I have some catching up to do.
