Spring Poppies, 12x16 oil on stretched canvas, by Stevie Denny
It's starting to warm up here in Phoenix, and I've been thinking about painting poppies. Although they are not yet blooming, I took a close-up photo of a poppy at the foot of the Superstition Mountains on March 1, 1998. I've kept that photo because I thought I'd paint it someday, and today I did. If you want to see a beautiful yellow carpet of poppies, visit the Superstition Mountains in early March -- what a magnificent sight!

I love it! the color is vibrant yet has your usual soft touch.
