BECKY JOY FINE ART sunset oil landscape

5x7 oil on canvas panel Sky #51
I went up to Prescott yesterday to give a demo at Mountain Artists Guild. I thought I was totally prepared, but I forgot my tripod. I was trying to pack as light as possible thinking they would have an easel for me to use, but no. So, I managed to paint on a 16x20 canvas for the demo. My position for painting was a little difficult, so I certainly wouldn't consider it one of my best demos. But I think everyone got something out of it, so that is good.
I painted this one today in the studio from an old photo. The field was a variety of warm colors with the late afternoon sun.  The light was hitting the trees and the tops of the fence posts. A really nice scene.
We poured concrete this week for an addition to the house and then driving to Prescott yesterday, I'm pretty tired now and not doing much of anything. Hopefully, Mon I'll be back in the swing of things.
I'll talk to you all tomorrow.

BECKY JOY FINE ART dawn oil landscape

6x6 oil on canvas panel

I have made up a page that spells out my buying, shipping and the guarantee for my paintings. If you want to see it click here.

I got back to painting today after spending a lot of time working on the website last week. Since I'm not a tech person, I'm sure that this has taken a lot longer than it would others. But, I must say, I am proud of what I accomplished here. I'm still hearing about a couple little tweaks that I need to take care of. I guess the comment form goes too far to the right. I'll have to work on that now. If you see something I should change or is confusing, etc., let me know. Ah, the job of an artist is never done. Didn't we say that about motherhood too? and housework?

My next job will be getting out the newsletter. Oh, and another thing, when I switched my blogs, I lost several subscribers for the blog. I'm picking up some, but it is slow going. So, if you stop by and have not subscribed or wondered why you weren't getting anything in your emails, that's the reason.

This weekend I rewrote my "about me" page. I tried to make it show some of my personality and not be so dry and factual. You might check it out. Then you can see the real me. At least, a part of me.

Tomorrow I will be off working on the house. We are having cement poured for a new patio across the back of the house. Yippeee! But, I will be back online with ustream on Wednesday for the weekly show at 3 pm PDT. So come join me in my studio as I paint.

Talk to ya'all later.

The Dirt Road and field by BECKY JOY

16x20 oil on linen
I started from a photo when I painted this. I loved the curves in the road going across the field. I designed the rest of the painting around this road. It is a good painting to see all the greens that you can create. Mixing, mixing, nothing out of the tube. Almost every color on my palette was mixed with the green.

I continued today filling out applications. OMG there are a lot due right now. In the next couple of days there will be more to do.

Tomorrow I will be out plein air painting. Its supposed to be a cloudy day and I would like to do another "gray" painting.

Talk to you all later.

Behind the Golden Nugget

I saw this view as I took the elevator to the parking garage at the Golden Nugget hotel in Las Vegas. It was June 2010, late in the afternoon and the contrasts of dark and lights intrigued me. The harsh glare from the Sun on the white cabana and surrounding palms seemed provide a real unusual and interesting separation with the two reflective buildings behind them.

plein air rural scene by BECKY JOY

HAYFIELD 6x6 oil plein air on canvas panel.

This is from last week's plein air paintings on my Oregon trip. I went out every morning to paint.

Sat, Sun and Mon I taught a workshop in Portland. It really went well. I haven't got the photos ready, so I'll have to post them later. I also was taking a video of one of the demo pieces, but forgot to set the camcorder in movie mode. I found that out after I finished painting. Anyway trust me, it went well. I sold the demo, a moonlight painting, to one of the students. They asked me to return for next year, so all in all, it was a success.

I have a couple of workshops I need to see if we can sew them up when I get home.

I'm hoping it isn't raining in the morning, so I can get out one last time. Time to pack up the paints soon and send them home.

Talk to you all later.

Field and Barn oil painting by BECKY JOY

This 6x6 oil on board is Farm Field. The painting is for sale on my website at www.beckyjoy.com.  With the purchase of this painting, you will receive a small black wrought iron display easel. The painting is finished on the edges of the board and varnished. With the easel you have the choice of framing it or displaying it on the easel.

I used both the palette knife and the brush on this painting. You can see more texture as you move into the foreground. This gives the painting more space and depth which I think is especially important in a scene like this with the distant trees and mountains.

Even though it is Sunday, I got a lot of painting done today. I started the day with a good game of bowling and a good day of painting. It was one of those days that things were coming together. Last week I felt pretty inept at painting. Oh well, sometimes it isn't easy.

I should have a productive day of painting tomorrow. No plans other than painting. :)!!!!
