Easter Lilies

My son had sent me lilies at Easter, and I painted this from a photo of the flowers.  I really enjoyed painting these shapes -- different from the flowers I normally paint.

I have visited many of the California missions, and one of the things I love is that many have beautiful fountains.  Those that are working fountains often have floating water lilies in a variety of colors.  I painted this from a photo I took of the fountain at San Juan Capistrano, one of the most beautiful missions.

"Lilies"

"Lilies" are the emblem of summer and abundance.  It means "forever in love" to the Chinese, and the white lily suggests "purity" in the Christian world.  Lilies come in a variety of colors and each has it's own meaning.  "The Lily of the Nile" (African lily) means discreet rendezvous and love letters.  The yellow lily expresses fun and gratitute.
