I have just returned from a painting trip to southern Utah and northern Arizona. While I was near the Vermillion Cliffs in northern Arizona some rain showers came through. Just by luck I happened upon this dirt road with a water puddle in it. I could hardly wait to paint this scene The vastness of space, the dirt road, the distant mountains and rain clouds capture the spirit of this land.

I was on a painting trip near Fort Collins, Colorado. One day I went out along the Poudre River to paint. The sunshine was off and on. When the sun hit this rock it was intriguing and off course there were small patches of light in the trees.

Most of the rivers in the Southwest eventually cut through some of the red rock formations. Here the Virgin River in Southern Utah flows slowly and reflects the many colors of the canyon.
