"Spring Cometh"

"Spring Cometh"
Oil, 8" X 10"
$250

As I travel the West, I come upon scenes that say to me, "paint me."  This is one of them.  The last of the snow, the trees still barren, but the promise of Spring from the sun.  While there is  minimal color here that enhances the painting.  Where does the trail of snow lead to?  More snow or Spring?

This is a plein air piece, or a painting done on site.  While i was painting this several people stopped by.  One person said, "well that scene is beautiful.  I walk here every day, but never really looked at how beautiful that scene is."

Seasons Change

"Seasons Change"
Oil on Canvas,  12" X 14",  $575

For those familiar with Arizona, this is Mt. Humpreys, viewed from the Wupatki area.  There is a hint of color on the mountain of the Fall Aspens.  Creating miles of distance on a flat surface is fascinating.  From a plein air study.

River's Light

"River's Light"
Oil on Canvas, 8" X 10"
$100

We all have walked along a river's bank, the large rounded rocks bathed in sunlight, the calm pooled water reflecting light and the smell of fresh mountain air and pine trees, and in the distance the quiet.  Capturing a memory, evoking a memory, or looking to the future, is what art does for all.

"Beyond the Trees"

"Beyond the Trees"
Oil on Canvas, 12" X 16"
$650

Far from the major tourist areas of Sedona lies another world of trails, trees, rocks and sunlight.  After the red rocks have eroded from the spectacular cliffs they lie in dry stream beds.  As one walks the trails of sedona one gets glimpses of the red rock formations, but the filtered light and textures along the trails are as enduring as the red rock monuments.

Autumn Valley Sunrise

"Autumn Valley Sunrise"

Oil on Canvas
12" X 16"
$650*

Facing East to the sunrise. I rose early one morning to paint at dawn and to create art of a sunrise morning in the southwest. The far hills are Bryce Canyon. The valley is "Long Valley' and the Sevier river flows through it. The rich Fall colors mixed with the morning warmth of the sun.

This painting has an amazing quality to it. As the daylight increases in the room where it is hung, the light gains strength just as a sunrise would.

Bryce Canyon Meadow

"Bryce Canyon Meadow"
Plein Air
Oil on Canvas, 8"X10"
$250

I love to find the back roads that are often near our national parks. Some real treasures are found on these roads. Bryce Canyon is spectacular. The red rock formations and the hoodoos are amazing, but so are many of the calmer meadows and the wide open views. I traveled this gravel road and spotted this scene. One sees about 50 miles here. In the meadow in the foreground is a seasonal creek, and the oranges and yellows mixed with some red and green were fascinating. I stood along a fence line and painted. Eventually, the gray clouds became darker and just as I finished it started to rain.

"After The Storm"

"After the Storm"
12" X 16" Oil on Canvas
$650 unframed

I have just returned from a painting trip to southern Utah and northern Arizona. While I was near the Vermillion Cliffs in northern Arizona some rain showers came through. Just by luck I happened upon this dirt road with a water puddle in it. I could hardly wait to paint this scene The vastness of space, the dirt road, the distant mountains and rain clouds capture the spirit of this land.

Along the Poudre River

"Along the Poudre River"
Oil on Canvas, 8"X10"
$250 (credit cards accepted)

I was on a painting trip near Fort Collins, Colorado. One day I went out along the Poudre River to paint. The sunshine was off and on. When the sun hit this rock it was intriguing and off course there were small patches of light in the trees.

Canyon River

"Canyon River"

Most of the rivers in the Southwest eventually cut through some of the red rock formations. Here the Virgin River in Southern Utah flows slowly and reflects the many colors of the canyon.
