I painted this from a photo I took outside the Mount Lemmon Sky Center in Tucson.  Our friend Adam Block, a well-known astro-imager, manages the observatory there for University of Arizona.  It's an educational and entertaining place to visit.

I had several photos I had taken of still life set-ups last Spring at Scottsdale Artists' School.  I often use these photos for reference, and today I painted a "cropped" version of one of them.  It's just a piece of the entire set-up, but it was perfect for this small surface.  It's a happy painting.

Recently I visited several of the California missions, and I found some beautiful Matilija poppies growing in the garden at Mission La Purisima, in Lompoc, CA.  I love to watch these large poppies floating in the breeze, and their graceful petals look like angel wings.  This painting is from a photo I took on that trip, and it's available on Daily Paintworks at http://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/287112.
