Desert Bloom, 6x6 oil painting by Stevie Denny

Desert Bloom
6x6 oil painting
on deep edge canvas

I painted this from a photo I took yesterday of my neighbor's beautiful blooms on her cactus.  The southwestern desert is full of color right now, with so many different plants in bloom.

This is painted on a deep edge canvas, and the edges are painted black -- no need to frame.

This painting is available on Daily Paintworks -- just click the link to go to  my page.

Fall Color, 8x10 oil painting by Stevie Denny

Fall Color
8x10 oil painting
on Raymar cotton panel

I painted this still life from a photo of a still set-up in a class that I took at Scottsdale Artist's School a few years ago. I try to photograph all the set-ups when I'm there -- they make great studies.

This painting is available through an online auction on Daily Paintworksbut it will need to dry for about two weeks before I can ship it.

El Rancho, 12x16 Oil Painting by Stevie Denny

El Rancho
12x16 oil painting
on stretched canvas

I got the inspiration for this painting from a local restaurant in Mesa, AZ called Rancho de Tia Rosa. It has a beautiful patio with ever-blooming flowers. Both the architecture and the food are wonderful! Unfortunately, Tia Rosa had a fire last December, and it's are still being reconstructed. They hope to re-open in December. If you're in Mesa, Arizona this is the place to go for some local color and great Mexican food!

This painting ships unframed, but it will fit a standard 12x16 open-back wood frame, available in most arts and crafts stores.

This painting is available for purchase through an online auction at Daily Paintworks.

Canyon Colors, 8x10 oil painting by Stevie Denny

Canyon Colors
8x10 oil painting on stretched canvas

I visited the Grand Canyon a few years ago, and I took many photos while I was there for painting reference.  I don't remember the name of this location, but it's along the South Rim.  I love the shapes and colors of the canyon, and the vastness of the landscape.

This painting is unframed, but it's on a traditional style of stretched canvas, so frames are readily available in most arts and crafts stores.  There are also several online sites that sell quality frames.

This painting is available through an online auction at Daily Paintworks.

Bulldog Rocks, 3x4 tiny oil painting by Stevie Denny

Bulldog Rocks
3x4 oil painting
on stretched canvas

Bulldog Rocks are in the Salt River wilderness area, just a few miles from where I live in Mesa, Arizona. People come from all over the world to see these giant rocks that look over the Salt River, especially when the late afternoon sun turns them to gold. The best place to view them is from a place called Water Users, off the Bush Highway (Water Users refers to the place where people put in kayaks and tubes on the Salt River). This is a TINY painting -- just 3x4 inches, but a cute little thing. It's not framed, and I don't recommend framing due to its small size. It would best be displayed on a small display easel, which I will happily provide for free to the buyer of this painting.

This painting is available through an online auction at Daily Paintworks.

Grape Vine, 10x8 acrylic painting by Stevie Denny

Grape Vine
10x8 acrylic painting
on archival cotton panel

This painting is a little different from my normal style, but it was fun to do. My local art group, the Gilbert Visual Art League, had a summer project to complete a macro (close-up) painting. While I was visiting some of the California missions this summer, I took close-up photos of some grapes on the vine at Mission San Antonio de Padua, north of San Luis Obispo. That became my macro subject, and voilà -- here's the finished piece!

This painting may be purchase through an online auction at Daily Paintworks.

El Rancho, 12x16 oil painting by Stevie Denny

El Rancho
12x16 oil painting
on stretched canvas

This painting was inspired by a local restaurant in northeast Mesa called El Rancho de Tia Rosa. Unfortunately, the restaurant had a fire last December and has been closed since then. But they are going to reopen in about two months. It's sad to think the beautiful building was damaged so badly, and I do hope they'll be able to restore its original look.

I've posted this painting before, but I made some minor adjustments to it, so I'm re-posting it.

This painting may be purchased online through Daily Paintworks.

Summer Roses, 8x8 oil painting by Stevie Denny

Summer Roses
8x8 oil painting
on archival Raymar panel

I recently painted these roses at a session with my friend Krista Eaton, picked fresh from her garden.

While I was putting on the final touches back at my own studio, I had just finished and was moving this painting from my easel to a shelf. Somehow it slipped from my hands and landed face-down on the floor.  Since we have two dogs, of course it picked up some of their fur.  It seems like the fur never goes away, no matter how often we vacuum.  I carefully removed as much of the loose hair as I could with a soft brush, but it's safe to say that Missy and Chewy have contributed something to this painting, too!

Sweet Dreams, 14x11 watercolor painting by Stevie Denny

Sweet Dreams
14 x 11 watercolor painting
on 140 lb. Arches cold press paper

I love to paint from old black and white photos, especially those of my family. I painted this from my favorite photo of my mother Trudy, who will be 93 in March. Trudy Whittet was one of ten children who grew up on a dairy farm in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. The only heat for the entire house was a wood stove in the kitchen, so in the wintertime the kids used to grab their clothes, run to the barn and get dressed in between the cows to stay warm. What a difficult life. Trudy was an honor student in high school, and she had a scholarship to go to medical school; but her parents would have been required to pay $600, and they just didn't have the money. So Trudy went to Nurse's Training in St. Paul because it was less expensive, and she could work her way through school. Between her schooling and working at the hospital, I can imagine she was bone tired most of the time. One of her classmates took this photo while she was catching a nap. I wish nurses still wore the crisp white uniforms, starched cap and white stockings. I can remember my mom wearing this uniform to work when I was a child. She always looked so professional.

This painting is not for sale, but I hope you enjoyed viewing it.
