Tree Study, 4x6 watercolor / India Ink painting by Stevie Denny

Tree Study
4x6 watercolor / India Ink painting
on 140 lb. Fabriano cold press paper

Last Saturday I attended a class with watercolor artist John Erwin, who uses India Ink in his watercolor paintings.  The workshop was lots of fun, and I really like his technique.  Since my painting time was very limited today, I worked on a small tree study.

This painting is available through an online auction at Daily Paintworks.

Punky Bear 5 x 7 oil on canvas board

Posted by:  Beverly Koldon Fine Art

I have always wanted to paint a colorful bear.  Interestingly enough, if the colors are the right shades of warm and cool,  you can create form.  This is my version of "Punky Bear."

This painting is available on an art auction site, Daily Paintworks.  Here is the link. http://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/257109

This painting is also displayed on Leslie Saeta's blog, Slices of Life

Red, White and Blue -- 16x12 oil painting by Stevie Denny

Red, White and Blue
16x12 oil painting
on stretched canvas

I've been spending my painting time this summer working on floral paintings.  When I took a class from Hedi Moran this past May at Scottsdale Artists' School, I had the chance to take photos of all the beautiful still-life setups they had, with fresh flowers.  I painted this from one of the photos I took.  This painting is available at SteviePaints, my store on Etsy.

Red Rock Sunset, 6x8 oil painting by Stevie Denny

During the past year I've taken a few classes from Dick Heichberger, a master landscape painter.  He really focuses on the use of transparent color, and that "less is more".  I painted this in one of his classes from a photo I had taken in Sedona.

The Red Door, 6x6 oil painting by Stevie Denny

Mission San Luis Rey de Francia in Oceanside, California is the "King of the Missions".  Named for King Louis IX of France, this was a former Spanish mission.  It iis still a working mission today, cared for by the people of the parish.  The Red Door is one of the many doors leading to the interior of the main building.  This mission has two asistencias, or sub-missions, associated with it.  Since the California missions were set up to be a day's travel between them, I often wondered how someone got from Oceanside to San Gabriel in one day (a distance of 89 miles).  I did some research, and I found there were ranches that provided lodging for travelers in-between.  The two asistencias (stations) for Mission San Luis Rey are Las Flores, near San Clemente and San Antonio de Pala, near Pala Mesa.  Some of these asistencias are still standing, and I plan to go back and visit them, as I visit all 21 of the California missions.

Cardinal Rules by Jake Beckman

Cardinal Rules by Jake Beckman

Cardinal Rules by Arizona expressionist artist Jake Beckman roller derby birds
Cardinal Rules a Binary Birds painting; the title of the work is reflected in ASCII Binary Code in the background. This artwork is created digitally, meaning a print is its final fixed form.  As such all prints made of this image are original artwork, in the same manner as a photograph, or print made from an engraving, is considered original artwork. It can be reproduced in 8x10 inch, 16x20 inch or in a canvas print 24x32 inch.  Of course other sizes and substrates are possible.  Each image is signed by the artist after creation, and the edition noted in the margin of the print. The artwork depicts a roller derby cardinal hip checking a raven skater, while a bald eagle referee cries fowl.

Just A Kiss by Jake Beckman

Just A Kiss by Jake Beckman

Just A Kiss
Just A Kiss is an original acrylic painting consisting of 6 gallery-wrapped stretched canvas panels. Each panel is 12 x 16 x 3/4 inch for a total painted area of 32 x 36 inches. Just A Kiss, by Jake Beckman, is about the romance of a summer night. The background is the warm colors of a summer sunset fading into violet hues; it features interlocking Fibonacci spirals in pale rose tones, which form heart-like shapes and intricate braids on the canvas- implying unseen connections, intrigue and love perhaps. One spiral is highlighted in a fiery spray of ignited passion. The panels can form an orderly arrangement or be randomly placed. Each panel is signed by the Artist, Jake, in the lower right hand corner.

The Abstract Concepts series encompasses Jake's free form exploration and expression of color, emotion, ideas, textures and structured formlessness, in search of the intrinsic quality of things rather than absolute concrete representation.

Fibonacci's Knot - by Jake Beckman

Fibonacci's Knot by Jake Beckman

Fibonacci's Knot

Fibonacci's Knot is an energetic 9-piece acrylic painting in the Abstract Concepts series by Jake Beckman. Each panel is 12 x 16 x 3/4 inch, which makes the overall work 3 x 4 feet. Fibonacci's Knot is a series of interlocking Fibonacci spirals, smaller ones in orange, larger ones in red. The background is in shades of warm brown, with broad fiery swatches of orange, yellow and red echoing the thinner spirals. There is just a touch of viridian and copper to bring the work together with some lovely desert southwest hues.

"I just decided to revisit this particular concept again. I may do so a couple of more times...- Jake"

Carlotta's Poppies

CARLOTTA'S POPPIES

By Scottsdale Artist

PAT STACY

CARLOTTA'S POPPIES

Acrylic on Canvas Panel

8" x 10" Framed

This painting is one of my early works. My friend

Carlotta had purchased a bathroom full of poppy

accessories, and for her birthday, I painted this

painting for her. The vase is an antique Spode

vase that belonged to my stepmother, and it really

looks like that. Obviously the painting is not for

sale, but I thought that those of you that know my

abstract work might like to see some of the more

realistic of the work I have done.
