Tea Rose, 8x8 oil painting by Stevie Denny

Tea Rose
8x8 oil painting
on deep-edge canvas,
ready to hang

This past year I planted my first rose bush in my yard.  I chose it for the color -- I don't know much about roses, but I want to learn more.  The rose plant iscalled a Tea Rose, and it produces roses in beautiful colors of peach, pink and white.  I painted this from a set-up in my studio, and the daisies were flowers I bought at the market.  Now I want to plant more rose bushes, but I have a feeling I should wait until cooler weather, since I live in the Phoenix area.

Winter Rose, 6x6 oil painting by Stevie Denny

Winter Rose
6x6 oil painting
on Raymar cotton panel

This flower gave me fits!  I painted it from life -- a rose from the miniature bush I bought at the market last year.  I struggled to keep the plant alive during our hot summer months, and once the weather cooled down, it bloomed like crazy.  It produces the most delicate white and pink roses, but what a challenge to paint it! The little glass jar is also from the market -- so cute, it had fruit in it.  The lemon was recycled from yesterday's painting, from the tree in my back yard.  Tonight it's going to be 29 degrees here in Mesa, so I think this may be the last of my lemons that you see.  I hope the tree survives.

"Roses and Bicycle V - Hello" by Li Hua Mahalik

Mixed Media with Acrylic, pen and Ink, 9x12

I tried something new with this painting.
But throughout the process I was mindful to preserve the composition which I was happy to begin with. The new techniques I learned seemed to work out all right.
And I will talk more about them in a later time.

AZteki by Jake Beckman

AZteki by Jake Beckman

AZteki by Arizona bird artist Jake Beckman Red tail hawk soars above abstract background
AZteki is an original acrylic painting on stretched canvas. The work is 24x18x3/4 inches. The work is painted on the edges so it may be hung without a frame.  AZteki is by  AZ contemporary bird artist Jake Beckman. In AZteki Jake is bringing some Arizona flavor to the Binary Birds art series. The red tail hawk is evocative of the desert southwest as are the colors in the painting, shades of warm browns, orange, pink, violet and yellow. The strand of binary in the painting reads "AZteki".

Binary Birds, by Jake Beckman - art that proudly projects you are member of the Social Media Tribe. A geek-y, nerd-y look at Social Media and other forms of electronic communication in the modern fully connected world.

Golden Light by Jake Beckman

Golden Light by AZ expressionist painter jake beckman a crane stands in a marsh watching the sun rise
Golden Light is an original acrylic painting on paper. The work is 11x14 inches. It is mounted in an 20x16 white single mat and placed in a narrow brown wood corporate style frame. Golden Light is by  AZ expressionist bird artist Jake Beckman. Golden Light is about the golden hour, the time around sunrise or sunset, when the atmosphere scatters the cooler shades of the spectrum resulting in a less intense, warmer lighting.  The circadian timing is one of just waking up to start the day, or winding down for the evening-a calmer less intense part of the day. In Golden Light, a crane wades through the water, just lifting its head to note the passage of two of its fellows as the sun is about to rise. The colors are shades gray, yellow and rosy pink.

The Magical Realism series is explores Jake's continuing fascination with mythology, magical thinking and fantasy. "The world does not have unicorns, dragons, fairies, talking dogs, and a great many other things I have dreamed of, but perhaps it should. I paint the world as it should be, not as it is."-Jake
